STUDY OF WESTERN TAYMYR PERMAFROST IN THE FRAMEWORK OF INTERNATIONAL POLAR YEAR EDUCATION PROGRAM - 2008
| The goal of the field trip was to study the contemporary permafrost state, ground ice specifics and paleogeographical reconstructions. During the expedition Pleistocene-Holocene deposits of different genesis were investigated in exposures, pit and boreholes. Contemporary cryogenic processes of Western Taymyr coastal zone were studied, such as coastal dynamics, ice wedges, and thermokarst. It is possible to see that for the last several decades the degradation of permafrost is observed in explored region. This 16-day course was held on board the “Sovetskaya Arctika” vessel, which sailed on the Yenisei River and in the Yeniseyskiy Bay from the town of Dudinka to the port of Dikson on the Arctic Coast of the Kara Sea |
